Advocate Groups
The SUD Voices for Change project builds statewide advocacy capacity through two parallel structures: regional groups and affinity groups. The purpose of both is to give people with a connection to substance use disorder -- whether through active addiction, recovery, being a loved one, or working as a healthcare provider -- meaningful entry points into policy advocacy, building a broader and more representative base of voices for California's SUD conversations.
Regional Groups
Organize advocates geographically. The first wave of four regions includes:
- Bay Area
- Inland Deserts
- North Central
- South Coast
The remaining two regions will follow:
Northern CA, Central CA.
Affinity Groups
Organize participants around shared identity or lived experience rather than geography. The three Priority 1 affinity groups are:
- SUD Workforce
- Criminal Justice-Impacted
- Diverse Individuals
Three additional affinity groups will follow based on need.
Together, these groups mark the beginning of a growing, statewide movement where lived experience drives real change in how California supports those affected by substance use disorder.

What to Expect After You Submit
Thank you for your interest in SUD Voices for Change. Here is what happens next:
- A member of our team will follow up with you within 2-3 business days to confirm your submission and answer any questions.
- Based on your responses, you will be added to the contact list for your regional or affinity group and notified when meetings, events, or opportunities become available.
- As groups launch and activities are scheduled, you will receive updates specific to your group.
